After an impactful career devoted to advancing the well-being of children, youth, and families, Deeann Puffert, CCA of WA’s Chief Executive Officer, will retire on July 15. Deeann has made countless contributions to early care and education in Washington state, playing a critical role in nearly every major advancement in the child care system over the last 40+ years.

Under Deeann’s leadership, CCA of WA has broadened both our reach and impact. She skillfully and compassionately led us through the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring not just the organization’s survival, but also growth, expanding our services to meet the evolving needs of families and providers.

Deeann guided the successful launch and implementation of the Child Care for Washington campaign, spearheading an impassioned fight to remedy the child care crisis in our state. She has also played a pivotal role in reinforcing CCA of WA’s partnerships with state and regional leaders.

We are grateful for Deeann’s insights as she collaborated with the Board to strengthen CCA of WA’s governance structure, including enhancing our bylaws, developing our first Racial Equity Policy, and establishing a succession plan to ensure smooth transitions for our team.

“The CCA of WA team offers our deepest gratitude and extends heartfelt congratulations to Deeann as she transitions into retirement,” Jennifer Hetterly, President of the CCA of WA Board of Trustees, said. “ She leaves a lasting legacy inspired by her dedication to the mission of equitable access to quality child care and education for all Washington children.”
