Washington leaders have recently taken steps to expand child care access in communities across the state, but it’s still difficult for many families to find high-quality, convenient and affordable care. Only 8% of 3-year-olds and 16% of 4-year-olds were served by Washington’s state-funded preschool programs last year, according to a new report by the National Institute for Early Education Research. The April report ranked Washington 17th among U.S. states in preschool access for 3-year-olds and 33rd for 4-year olds.
